Redeem It All
On a more personal note,
Two months ago I received a call from my sister who informed me that she was filing for divorce from her husband of 5 years, with whom she has two kids (3 years and 8 months). She told me that she didn’t love him like a wife should love her husband. Rest assured, their marriage was far from perfect. But I challenge anyone to show me a marriage that doesn’t have issues that need to be worked through. Regardless of whether or not I agree with the decision she is making, it begs the question, ‘Is God really in the business of restoring things that are broken?’ Can God restore a broken relationship?
My wife and I have been married for 7 years and we have two boys. We got off to a very rocky start. Due to prior sophomoric activities, our engagement was less than a fairy tale. Hollywood gets a big ‘Boo’ from me for portraying engagement as a dreamworld. I’ve watched my mother die of cancer, but our engagement was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. After months of counseling, sleepless nights, and our wedding a week away, something changed in my heart. I’d been praying for this change for one year and, though I never questioned if it was possible, I seriously doubted that I would ever experience it. I thought I was destined to a life of internal pain and heartache until God restored my heart and I was able to forgive my wife and love her for who she was not for what I wanted her to be. Restoration.
Can God restore broken and hurting hearts? Your damn right He can. Restoration is His business. The world and everything in it is His market. And once we’ve been redeemed, this is the business we are to carry out in the world. We are to restore broken things. Things that include but are not limited to, governments, organizations, relationships, the environment, businesses, systems, institutions, homes, marriages, etc… We are to speak truth into chaos. His business becomes our business. Why did God sacrifice His Son? He did so to restore the broken relationship between Him and His creation.
So, sis, if you are listening, remember one thing as you make decisions that will affect you, your kids, your husband, your extended family, your nephews, your friendships, your grandchildren, etc…
Christ is the One who redeems it all.
